What is Ambulatory Transportation
Ambulatory transportation is a category of non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) designed for patients who are mobile — meaning they can walk on their own, with a cane, or with a walker — but who still need professional medical transport assistance because they cannot safely or independently manage the trip to their appointment.
It is not an emergency ambulance service. It is not a standard taxi or rideshare. It is a specialized, medically aware transportation service for patients who need more care, more patience, and more reliability than general transportation can offer.
In Arizona, ambulatory NEMT fills a critical gap for patients who:
- Cannot safely drive themselves due to medication side effects, medical conditions, or post-procedure restrictions
- Lack access to a personal vehicle or public transportation
- Have mobility limitations that make rideshare or taxi services unreliable or unsafe
- Require a trained professional — not just a driver — to assist them to and from appointments
If you or a loved one needs a non-emergency ambulatory ride in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, or California, our service is built for you.
Who We Serve: Ambulatory Transportation Patients in Arizona
Our Arizona ambulatory NEMT services are built around the real needs of real patients. We proudly serve:
- Seniors and Elderly Patients in Arizona: Arizona is home to one of the fastest-growing senior populations in the United States. Cities like Sun City, Peoria, Scottsdale, and Green Valley are among the most popular retirement destinations in the country. Our ambulatory transport service for elderly patients in Arizona provides a safe, respectful, door-to-door solution. Our drivers are trained specifically to assist aging adults with patience and dignity. We understand that for many seniors, the ride to the doctor is as important as the appointment itself.
- Post-Surgical and Post-Procedure Patients: Following surgeries, colonoscopies, endoscopies, cardiac catheterizations, or any procedure involving sedation or general anesthesia, Arizona patients are medically restricted from driving themselves home.
Our post-procedure ambulatory transport service in Arizona ensures you have a trained professional waiting for you when you’re discharged, ready to assist you comfortably and safely back home — no last-minute scrambling required. - Patients with Chronic Medical Conditions: Arizonans managing diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and other chronic conditions often require frequent medical visits. We offer recurring scheduled ambulatory transportation in Arizona so patients can establish a consistent, dependable ride schedule for ongoing care management.
- Patients with Cognitive or Neurological Challenges: Individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or neurological conditions that affect orientation and decision-making need more than just a driver. Our Arizona NEMT drivers are trained to communicate patiently and safely with cognitively vulnerable passengers.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ambulatory Transportation
What is the difference between ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher transportation?
Ambulatory transportation is for patients who can walk independently or with minimal assistance. Wheelchair transportation accommodates patients who use a wheelchair as their primary mobility device. Stretcher transportation is for patients who must remain lying down during transport due to medical conditions or post-surgical requirements. We offer all three services — see our Wheelchair Transportation and Stretcher Transportation pages for details.
How far in advance should I book my ambulatory ride?
We recommend booking at least 24–48 hours in advance to guarantee availability, especially for recurring or time-sensitive appointments. However, we do accommodate same-day ride requests based on availability.
Are your drivers trained to assist medically vulnerable passengers?
Yes. We have some drivers that undergo specialized training in passenger assistance, and communication with elderly, cognitively impaired, or medically sensitive passengers. You have to request specific needs of the patient at the time of booking.
Do you offer long-distance ambulatory transportation?
Yes, we offer long-distance NEMT rides within and between our service states — Arizona, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, and California. Contact us for custom long-distance ride quotes.
Can a family member or caregiver ride along?
We can allow a companion or caregiver to accompany the patient especially elderly patients or those with cognitive challenges. It depends on vehicle capacity.
Is this an emergency ambulance service?
No. We provide non emergency medical transportation services only. For medical emergencies, please contact emergency services.
Can ambulatory transport be scheduled for recurring appointments?
Yes. We offer scheduled and recurring ambulatory transportation services.
